On April 5, 2005, April 4, 2006, and November 6, 2006 Appleton residents cast their overwhelming support for 100% smokefree workplaces, including restaurants, bars, and bowling centers. Appleton has been smokefree since July 1, 2005.
On June 27, 2006, The U.S. Surgeon General released his report on secondhand smoke. He states "There is no debate, there is no safe level of secondhand smoke. Any amount of exposure causes heart disease, respiratory impairment, and cancer in non-smokers." He further advised that all public buildings be smokefree, including all entertainment venues.
Thanks to everyone who voted to keep all of our workers and citizens safe.
